MedGemma 4B IT is Google's open-weight, instruction-tuned multimodal medical model from the first MedGemma release, built on Gemma 3 4B with a medically tuned SigLIP image encoder and released on May 20, 2025 as part of Health AI Developer Foundations. It accepts text and medical images such as chest X-rays, dermatology, ophthalmology and histopathology images and generates text; it was superseded by MedGemma 1.5 4B in January 2026.
